Renewable

The Shroom Light's shades are made from 100% wool felt that is harvested from sheep. Wool is a renewable resource, as the sheep will keep growing new coats of wool over their lifetime. The production of wool felt relies on organized farming of sheep world wide, maintaining a steady supply of the raw material. Shroom Light’s wool is sourced and processed in Pennsylvania.

Biodegradable / Compostable

Because wool is an animal derived product it will biodegrade under the right set of conditions. The Shroom Light's shades can be shredded and put in a composting bin or buried to biodegrade over time.

Design

Shroom Lights are hand crafted by one of the last remaining hat manufacturers in the US. The shape, colors and details are the result of employing the manufacturers skills and technology to create a product that fits an alternative and growing market. In addition to being designed for easy disassembly for composting, the lamp requires the use of energy efficient compact fluorescent bulbs.

Made in the United States. Manufacturing locations were selected for their proximity to our studio as well as for their practices and labor conditions.

Materials

100% wool shade, wire and nylon edge-band, electrical components, powder-coated steel wire frame

To remove dust and dirt off the Shroom shade use a lint remover or tape. Light stains may be removed with low grit sandpaper. Sand very lightly in the same direction as the fibers removing only the stained fibers. Shroom shades may be steamed back into shape with a household steamer. Steam dents and affected area until it is soft and using both hands lightly re-shape shade into original form. Repeat as necessary. To harden the shade spray starch and let dry completely. Always use compact fluorescent bulbs.

Using traditional felt molding technologies and local manufacturers as a source of inspiration, the Shroom Light explores felt’s natural beauty as a material for diffusing light. Material density softens and directs light, producing relaxing atmospheres that range from the warm and relaxed to the psychedelic and fun.
