Your Guide to Temporary Partition Walls for Home Design Projects

Imagine transforming your home effortlessly—no major renovations, no permanent commitments. Whether you're carving out a quiet workspace, creating a cozy guest room, or setting aside a playful nook for kids, temporary partition walls can turn these visions into reality quickly and stylishly. DIY Solutions: Quick Fixes and Their Limitations Many homeowners start their journey with simple DIY solutions, and it's easy to see why. Curtains instantly add warmth, color, and personality to a room. They're quick to install and affordable, though they offer limited privacy and minimal sound control. Bookshelves or open shelving units are another popular choice, providing practical storage and clearly defined spaces. They’re particularly useful in open floor plans but tend to have a bulky footprint and minimal noise reduction. Freestanding screens bring a touch of chic vintage style and convenience. They're portable and excellent for quickly changing layouts. However, their stability and acoustic capabilities are limited, making them less ideal for active homes or spaces needing quiet.  Other common DIY options include freestanding partitions, which offer flexibility...

Whether you’re after renter-friendly room divider ideas or just need to carve out a work nook or sleep zone, there’s a smarter, modular way to do it—and no hardware required. At MIO, we design modular room dividers, temporary walls for apartments, and flexible partition systems that don’t just respect your lease—they reinvent your space. How to Reduce Noise in a Small Apartment Without Renovation Apartments—especially older ones—aren’t always built with peace and quiet in mind. Sound loves to travel: it reflects off hard walls, sneaks under doors, and reverberates across bare floors. If you're living in a space with echo or ambient noise from neighbors, roommates, or the city beyond your windows, adding soft, absorptive surfaces can make a big difference. That’s where temporary room dividers like our Nomad System Felt or Shift...

Decorative Sound Absorbing Wall Panels: Where Style Meets Functionality

In today’s echo-prone interiors—from open-plan offices to urban apartments—sound isn’t just something we hear. It shapes how we feel, how we focus, and how we connect. Enter sound absorbing wall panels: quiet problem-solvers that double as design statements. At MIO, we believe beautiful, sustainable acoustics start with understanding how sound works—and how spaces should feel. Let’s start there. What Is NRC—and Why Should You Care? Sound travels in waves. When it hits a surface, one of three things happens: it's reflected, absorbed, or diffused. Hard surfaces like glass, concrete, and drywall reflect most of that energy, creating echoes and amplifying noise. Soft, porous materials—like felt—can absorb those waves and convert them into small amounts of heat, effectively quieting the room. This is where NRC, or Noise Reduction Coefficient, comes into play. NRC is a standardized measurement that tells us how well a material absorbs sound on a scale from 0 to 1 critical for recording studio treatment and offices. A rating of 0 means no sound is absorbed (everything is...
